Advance Australia Fair

I’m expecting to get quite a lot of flak from fellow Kiwi’s for what I’m about to say, but I’ll say it anyway…
Australia is awesome!
I haven’t been to Sydney since I was 6 or 7 and I’ve never visited Melbourne at all. So when a rather serendipitous set of circumstances set me on a Qantas flight bound for the other Great Southern land, I jumped at the chance.
Stunning Sydney
Even arriving in the middle of a fairly massive thunderstorm did little to dampen my spirits and within an hour we were checked into the conveniently located, mid-range Park Regis hotel.
Live Jive 2009
It was great to receive an invitation to Kev and Carrie’s annual BBQ at their farm cottage just outside Basingstoke.
Last year’s gig was unfortunately cancelled for various reasons and when I heard it was back on this year, I was chuffed.
By the time I arrived around 2pm there were already a dozen or more tents pitched in the back yard and FuZeD were just tuning up and by the time I had popped the top of a cold beer and greeted a few pals, they were off and rockin!

Last night, Gavin and I went over to the Halfmoon in Putney to see Ezio live.
The Halfmoon is a unique music venue. With a history of nearly 50 years of live music, it has a proud history of promoting new talent and bands. This is where Kate Bush made her debut, where Elvis Costello was resident before signing a record deal and where U2 had their first sold-out British gig.

RIP: Syd
Just heard that Pink Floyd founder and 60′s mega-talent Syd Barrett passed away today at the age of 60.
All the god’s blessings on you Syd … I hope that wherever you are now, you have found the peace and happiness that seemed to elude you through a large portion of your life.
The crazy diamond shines no more … and the world is the poorer for it. ![]()
Rave: Hyde Park Calling
What can I say? Absolutely excellent weekend! 60,000+ people enjoying a range of top musical talent and classic rock!
Full details are in the Bandanna Club Good Times section

Rave: Wire Daisies “Just Another Day”

Having fallen out of touch with much of the UK music scene in the mid 90′s, (during the period I shudderingly refer to as “Clubbing and Remix Hell”) I’m enormously pleased to see the return of a growing number of original new bands emerging in a renaissance of the UK music industry.
Chief among my favourites has to be the Cornwall-based Wire Daisies. Their debut album “Just another Day” is a milestone in Indie music and rightly went straight into the iTunes charts in September 2004 when it was launched.
