Out & About
Extreme Sports
Over the years, we have partaken in a a number of sports which some folks might consider a little extreme.
Hong Kong Revisited

It’s mid-morning as I sit in a coffee shop on Nathan Rd in the heart of the golden mile during the last day of a 3-day stopover from NZ.
A young woman wearing the latest western designer clothes strolls purposefully down the road. As she passes the coffee shop, she side-steps a tiny old woman, who is bent almost double, pushing a cartload of goods slowly down the street. The young woman barely sees her; she is talking on her mobile phone. Seconds later she glances at her brand-name watch before disappearing down into the Shah Tsim Shiu station of the MTR.
Saying goodbye to my 30′s
Well…my 40th birthday is not too far away now.
I have to say I’m a little ambivalent about it all; On one hand I’m aware of passing another of life’s milestones and that naturally gives me pause for thought. On the other hand, the first 4 years of the new millennium were (for me at least) largely crap and I’m not sorry to see the back of them.
Rave: Free Fallin’
Over the last 10 years, we have talked repeatedly about doing a skydive. But somehow we never progressed further; there always seemed to be something happening that meant we never managed to get it booked.
We decided it was time to take the plunge!
Report on Going Ape
Finally got down to Moors Valley Country Park – for the long-awaited high-wire adventure with Go Ape.
A full account is available on the Bandanna Club website and includes a photo gallery.
Cheers to Nick for organising a grand day out!
Life-changing moments
It’s been an eventful week here…a week that has seen an emotional rollar-coaster ride of worry and relief, of sleepless nights and stress for all of us…
It’s all been related to a nasty health scare that one of our number found themselves subjected to…put simply, the words of a certain Mr. McGraw:-
“I spent most of the next days, looking at the x-rays, talking ’bout the options and talking ’bout sweet time.”
…were certainly ringing in my ears.
Thinking about Going Ape
A mate of ours has just booked us on what sounds like a bit of a larf…a place called “Going Ape” in the nearby Moors Valley park.
The Moors Valley website describes it as:
“an extreme high wire forest adventure, not for the faint hearted. Strapped into a harness, participants traverse from tree to tree just below the canopy and negotiate rope bridges, scramble nets, tarzan swings and zip slides. Go Ape! and enjoy 2+hours of adrenaline-fuelled fun, laughter and adventure.”
Well, I sure as hell could use the exercise and it looks like fun…watch this space.
