RIP: Syd

Syd Barrett

Just heard that Pink Floyd founder and 60′s mega-talent Syd Barrett passed away today at the age of 60.

All the god’s blessings on you Syd … I hope that wherever you are now, you have found the peace and happiness that seemed to elude you through a large portion of your life.

The crazy diamond shines no more … and the world is the poorer for it. cry

Rave: Wire Daisies “Just Another Day”

Having fallen out of touch with much of the UK music scene in the mid 90′s, (during the period I shudderingly refer to as “Clubbing and Remix Hell”) I’m enormously pleased to see the return of a growing number of original new bands emerging in a renaissance of the UK music industry.

Chief among my favourites has to be the Cornwall-based Wire Daisies. Their debut album “Just another Day” is a milestone in Indie music and rightly went straight into the iTunes charts in September 2004 when it was launched.

Rave: Habib Koite

A couple of weeks ago, I popped over to see two of my best friends and to attend my Godson’s birthday party.

After all the little darlings had run out of the energy they obtained from ingesting copious quantities of processed sugar all day, we finally packed them off to bed and gratefully collapsed in the conservatory. Around midnight, we flicked on the radio and over a large coffee, listened to Bob Harris on BBC Radio2.
