Today’s supposed row over the TV drama “Death of a President” was a small but meaningful 40th birthday gift for me.
The drama on More4, uses actors and computer effects to portray “president” Bush being shot dead during an anti-war rally in Chicago in 2007.
I won’t go so far as to say I wish it had been an actual news story instead of a piece of fictionalised TV, but for the first time, I actually found myself regretting the fact that I was not a TV subscriber!
Bush is of course an olympic-class arsehole of the first order, but he is also only one head in the multi-headed Hydra that is the US Military/Industrial complex; lop his bonce off and another sprouts in it’s place. And maybe the next head is a little less stupid (and less entertaining) and therefore a lot more dangerous.
The film at least seems to have put the willies up the reactionaries in the star-spangled face of the US M/I complex (commonly known as the Republican party of Texas).
Normally these morons would go completely nuts about this kind of thing, and all be doing the rounds on Fox TV condemning the whole exercise in the loudest possible way. But the overall reaction seems surprisingly muted this time; their current mouthpiece Gretchen Essell didnt say much more than: “I don’t know if there are many people in America who would want to watch something like that”.
Anyway, thanks More4…it’s just what I always wanted!

He’s a complete buffoon and a total disgrace as a president.
The sooner the moron leaves the Whitehouse the better
