<p>There&#8217;s been a <a href="http://www.google.co.uk/#hl=en&amp;q=recession+ending&amp;meta=&amp;fp=458d05167c37f829" title="Google results (opens in new window)" target="_blank">spate of stories</a> in the press recently, where various industry pundits are heralding the <a href="http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8217122.stm" title="BBC Article (opens in new window)" target="_blank" >end of the recession</a>.</p>
<p>In true pundit style, the sources are covering their arses by throwing in the &#8220;but let&#8217;s not get overconfident just yet&#8221; caveats, but the gist of it all, is that things are less crap than they were not so long ago.</p>
<p>And I reckon that&#8217;s at least partly because of me.</p>

<p>Well, that&#8217;s 2008 finished.  For many folks it&#8217;s not been a good one and I suspect that they are glad to put it behind them.</p>
<p>Beyond the impact of the credit crunch, the Russians and Georgians scrapping and the inevitable <a href="http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/7806844.stm" title="BBC article (opens in new window)" target="_blank">Christmas kickoff between Israel and Hamas</a>, 2008 did have a few highlights. The election of Barrack Obama heralded the end of the <a href="http://bandannaclub.com/blogwp/2008/06/19/bye_bush_a_poem/" title="Bye Bush (a poem)">Bush era</a> and there&#8217;s not many of us outside the US who are sorry to see THAT happen.</p>

<p>A few days ago, I was listening to one of a seemingly endless series of radio discussion programmes about the credit crunch.</p>
<p>Most of these programmes have a fairly low-to-middle range annoyance factor, but this particular programme really got my blood boiling, because the interviewee had the gall to state:</p>
